Player of the Week

MIKE JONES &
JEROME MOENTER

 

As an unseeded team in the men's 35 doubles draw, Mike Jones and Jerome Moenter advanced through the draw without dropping a set to capture the title at the Bernard Master Wickertree Classic. They defeated Brian Sanford and Steve Siegel 6-2 6-0 in the quarters, #2 seeds Paul Ghidotti and Andy Keller 6-2 6-3 in the semis and #1 seeds Ted Becker and Eric Iskersky 6-4 6-2 in the final.

Both Jones and Moenter also excelled in other divisions with different players.

In men's open doubles, Moenter and James Kaser held their #4 seeding by reaching the semis with wins over JR and RJ Pepino 6-4 6-3 in the first round and Steve Jones and Bill Oliver 6-0 6-4 in the quarters. In the semis, #1 seeds Ed Carter and Tim Pleasant needed three sets to stop Moenter and Kaser by a 5-7 6-3 6-4 score.

With partner Colin Leveque, Mike Jones was unseeded in the men's 45 doubles draw. However, they reached the final by beating Mark Anderson and Mike O'Callaghan 6-1 6-1 in the quarters and upsetting the #1 seeded Chris Baxter and Larry Turville 3-6 6-4 7-6 (5) in the semis before losing to #2 seeds Phil Landauer and Neal Newman 6-3 6-3.

For their individual and collective performances in this tournament, Moenter and Jones were named Players of the Week.
