A
compass draw is a relatively new type of tournament draw. In this
example it will contain 16 participants. Everyone is guaranteed
four matches over the two days (as long as we have 16 participants).
First
day: The first round will consist of 8 matches among the 16 participants.
- The
winners go east to the next round, just like a regular draw.
- The
losers go west, basically like the backdraw in many tournaments.
Then
there is another round of matches among the eight in the west
and eight in the east. The four winners on each side continue
going in the same direction.
- The
losers in the east go into a north division (won their first
round match and lost the second). There are now four players
in the north division that will play off amongst each other
on day two.
- The
losers in the west go into a south division (lost their first
round match and lost the second). There are now four players
in the south division that will play off amongst each other
on day two.
Second
day: We now have four groups of four players (the four points
of the compass).
- East
- the four players that have won their first round and second
round matches.
- West
- the four players that lost their first and won their second
round matches.
- North
- the four players that won their first and lost their second
round matches.
- South
- the four players that lost their first and second round matches.
Now
we have a semifinal and final amongst the four players left in
each compass division. Semifinal losers in each division play
off for third in their compass division.

| The
highest ranked 16 players, as of the most recent Midwest rankings,
will be selected to participate in this tournament. Players that
register for the tournament online, but are not among the 16 selected
to play, will not be charged an entry fee.

Seeding
Criterion and Information
|
|
All players are individually responsible for providing their
own seeding information to the tournament administration, which
will be copied to the seeding committee. The committee may not
have access to all your information, though we strive to find
as much out as is possible about each player. We strive to provide
as accurate a seeding process as is possible. If we are not familiar
with you, or your past results, it is in your best interests to
provide us with as much information as possible. The committee
considers all info we have access to, but is not limited to, any
of the following sources. The committee considers all sources
of information and usually, but not always, places the most weight
on the most current results. A past highly ranked player returning
form an injury rehab or surgery may be judged a higher seed due
to previous results.
- USTA National
rankings for the last three years.
- USTA Sectional
Rankings for the last three years.
- USTA National
junior rankings.
- COGP/Tennisfax
rankings.
- Comparable
opponent results.
- Head to
head competition.

Travel Tip
. . . It's usually best to call these hotels directly and request
special rates for the weekend that a specific tournament is running.
Don't go through the national 800 reservation system, they rarely
have local special rates on file. Turnover tends to be high among
national chain hotel management. We have had special rates at
many hotels in the past, and after a management change, they may
no longer be available. On the positive side, many hotels are
running their own weekend specials. If you just ask, many times
they will give you a special discount, just to fill the hotel
for the weekend, which is usually their slowest time of the week.
