The Midwest
Hardcourts has been a showcase for Ohio State players, past &
present. Of that group, alumnus BJ Munroe stood out in 2004.
Seeded #1 in
the men's open draw, Munroe beat in succession Daniel Dodson 6-1
6-0, #9 seed Craig Smith 6-2 4-6 7-5, Steve Pillon 7-6 6-4, Buckeye
Ross Wilson 7-6 4-6 6-2 in the semis and another Buckeye Joseph
Atas 7-6 6-3 in the final.
Munroe and
partner Matt Rutherford were also the top seed in men's open doubles.
They defeated Brian Rager & Travis Curran 6-3 6-3, #5 seeds
Will Lofgren & Matt Polous 4-6 6-3 7-6 in the quarters and #3
seeds James Kaser & Jerome Moenter 6-3 7-6 in the semis before
losing to the #4 seeds from OSU, Devin Mullings & Domonic Ozane
7-6 7-5 in the final.
For his efforts,
Munroe was named the Adult Player of the Week for the Midwest Hardcourts.
