USTA Two Tournament Rule
COGP Policy

COLUMBUS, Ohio -- The USTA currently has a rule concerning entering two tournaments when the dates overlap. The rule states: "When either tournament entry closes, a player may not be entered in two or more sanctioned tournaments if any part of the tournaments overlap, unless all Tournament Committees/Directors understand the situation and agree in writing. Written approval from both Tournament Committees/Directors must be received in the District Office prior to the deadline of either tournament. This information can be sent via fax, mail or email; however, it is the parent/legal guardian's responsibility that the District Office receives such written notice to ensure suspension points are not issued."

It is the policy of most COGP tournaments to waive this rule and give blanket permission for players to enter COGP events along with other tournaments as long as the COGP tournament director(s) are notified upon entry and supplied with the players' match times from the non-COGP tournament. We can do this because most COGP tournaments generally accept scheduling requests from players anyway. (Note, some COGP tournaments do not accept this situation so be sure to check with the individual director(s) before entering.) The COGP will supply an e-mail permission letter upon request (contact tournaments@cogp.com).

Also, while it may appear that many of the COGP tournament dates overlap, the schedule is designed to avoid conflicts. For example, most of the week long COGP tournaments (like Gahanna, Academy, New Albany, Worthington, Pickerington North and Dublin) will play their junior divisions Monday through Thursday so they will avoid conflicts with Friday afternoon junior team matches and the Tournament at the Tree series of weekend tournaments. A graphic calendar for the summer will be posted soon showing how the summer schedule is set up to avoid scheduling conflicts.
